INSTRUCTIONS
============
Using LETTERFALL you may learn to type. As you play a game
you learn new letters and your typing speed improves.
16 Levels
=========
LETTERFALL has 16 levels. The first level consists of the
`home' keys: asdf jkl;. On these 8 keys your fingers rest.
Your fingers move from the home keys to all the other keys.
Levels 2 through 9 add two letters each. Level 10 adds c and comma
while level 11 adds x, period, z, and slash. Level 12 adds only
the question mark. Levels 13 to 15 add the 10 numbers 1234567890.
Level 16 adds the uppercase letters and the symbols @ # $.
Letterfall
==========
Each level has two sections. In the first section single letters
fall down the screen. Your challenge is to type the letter before
it touches bottom. The computer beeps at you if you make an error;
if you have time, retype the correct letter.
Wordfall
========
The second section of each level has words falling down the screen
and your challenge is to type the word AND PRESS THE SPACE BAR
before the word reaches the bottom. If you mistype a letter,
retype the correct letter.
Whenever a new word appears, simply type the new word and press the space
bar. Look at the screen and not at your fingers or the keyboard!
Function Keys
=============
At the bottom of most pages you will see the message
F1 for next page, F2 for last page, ESC for Menu
The function key F1 is on the upper left on PC keyboards. On the
PCjr, hold down the Fn key in the upper right, and press the number 1
key to obtain F1. Throughout most of LETTERFALL, F1 takes you to the next
page.
Beginning typists will benefit by repeating each of the opening exercises
three times. To do so, let the program take you to a new page, and then
press F2 to return to the preceeding page.
The ESC key is on the upper left of your keyboard. During the program
simply press the ESC key when you wish to return to the menu.
Some of the words you will see are rarely used. They are put in
the game to give you practice typing.
Watch punctuation. Be careful to type periods, semicolons and commas
exactly as they appear in the falling word.
